A selection of writings from the men of the 7th Tennessee

July 4, 1861 – Camp Trousdale, Tennessee

Pvt. Archibald (Archie) Norris (Co. K) wrote in his journal.

“Was called up this morning by Capt. Bostick. Went over to Major Howard’s quarters.

Loaded my gun, and with fifteen others from our regiment went off for the depot at a rapid walk. Helped to stop the train from Nashville.

Strangest celebration of the 4th I ever saw.

William Atwell was with me.”
