Lost Company was written in 1997.

LOST COMPANY – Thoughts about the writing process:

This is a story about a group of Civil War re-enactors who go back in time and fight in a Civil War battle.

I wrote Lost Company in 1997. The writing was fast and furious; in fact the rough draft was completed in about six months. This was not full-time writing like during summer vacation, but rather writing occurring after coming home from work, and on the weekends. The research for Lost Company was enjoyable, but I took considerable pains to get the facts right. After all, I was delving into the lives of the original boys of the 6^th Ohio and I did not want to dishonor them by distorting their history.

Since I was a member of the 6^th Ohio Civil War re-enacting organization it was easy to get the fellows and ladies interested. At Civil War events we often set around the campfires at night and talked about what it would be like to go back in time. We wondered if we had what it takes to stand beside the Boys of ’61. The fellows and ladies volunteered themselves as characters in the story and talked excitedly about who would play their parts in the upcoming blockbuster of a movie created from the book.
